Providing a simple "Select All" button or even better, a "Select/Deselect All" toggle button, would simplify the map screen for new users because they can simply hit the button to select the entire map and go to the next map in their collection (if they have one).ģ. While the tiles can be mass deselected using CTRL and a mouse click, it's always better to opt-in than opt-out. In 4.0, once you get to the "advanced functions" you are presented with all the tiles in a given map already selected. On the tile selection screen tiles should not be selected by default and there should be a "Select Entire Map" button. Next to each is a question: Install this map? and either a drop down box with "yes" or "no", or else a pair of checkboxes, one marked "yes" and the other marked "no".Ģ. Instead of the current system of color coding and drop down boxes with esoteric options, you have a list of compatible maps. A simplified checklist of compatible maps. Seriously, the old MapInstall interface was perfectly fine, but could have benefited from the following:ġ. This dumbing down of the interface to appeal to Joe Average was not well thought out, because by dumbing down the interface as they have they have alienated the more advanced users. I did have to reassign the Start Menu shortcut to start the old Mapinstall.exe in the c:\Garmin directory. Update: Uninstall did remove 4.0.0 and even its directory. I think I'll try uninstalling 4.0.0 (and hoping it doesn't trash the old 3.1.5) and wait for 4.0.1. For now I would recommend not upgrading to 4.0 since they have some kinks to be worked out. Until then I think I'll be sticking with 3.15 since 4.0 feels too dumbed down for me.ĮDIT: Apparently issues have already been found with 4.0, including the old version of MapInstall not being removed. Does a new map image get created and the old one replaced? Do the various maps get combined into one gigantic image file? How does one only update one map?Ī comprehensive help file, which I haven't found yet, would be useful. My main issue is that it isn't clear what happens with maps that haven't changed. Want am i doing wrong? i would like it to read in the gps, taking it out all the time is a pain.Actually trying out the new version I'm finding myself not liking it too much at the moment. Ok, should show up on Basecamp! NO! only the GPS, so tried Mapsource great shows up has Removable Media (G) Ok placed into my GPS62s took a long time to show on MY COMPUTER Folder, the Internal folder showing nice blue triangle, but the SDcard says removable drive (G) that must be it, i click on it runs and runs then said insert cd in driver, then i canzel and my computer frezzes up! so i formated it,then i made a folder garmin to place maps on.Easy! Help! i do not understand the same is happing to me! got my new MicroSDHC 8gb class 10 card. When i placed in the adabter then into my computer, works great, says Sd card and can open easy read. If I move things from the GPSr storge to the microSD the GPSr recognizes the maps automatically when I boot it up. But using the computer I can see both the GPSr and the microSD card. For some reason using Basecamp for Birdseye imagery or MapInstall for 24K topos the microSD card isn't visible as a storage device. I think between your post and my experiments I figured it out. However I usualy use my Card Reader to transfere the maps to the SD Cars because its a lot of faster than the transfere via the GPS, a few gigs take an awafull ong time otherwhise.Īs long as you put the files in the right directories you can even upload them with the Explorer. Should be the same for you (at last if the 62s can handle the 16BG card, I'm not sure about it and don't have the manual nearby) I can tell Mapsource to use this Disk instead of the internal which is named Garmin GPSMAP 62s. My 62s lists the SD card as a Removable Disk. Apparently these are things that Garmin doesn't see fit to include in the owners manual. Is there a way to load it directly into the mircorSD card? Why doesn't MapInstall see the microSD? If I load items directly onto the microSD will they be visible to the GPSr? What about Birdseye? When I download imagery it gets loaded onto the unit. When I plug the GPSr into my computer it recognizes the microSD card and the GPSr. When I use Garmin MapInstall it doesn't seen to recognize the additional space. I recently installed a Kingston 16 GB Class 10 MicroSD Flash Card into my Garmin GPSMap 62s.
